Student Testing is the process of pairing students and educators together in a digital proctoring room so that students can complete each of their assigned subtests. Prior to logging students in for the first time, review the information in this topic to familiarize yourself with the basics of the student testing process.

Student Log in

The are two different ways for student to log into the Elevate platform.

Single sign on using Clever. This is the simplest way for students to log in because they will not need to use their unique Elevate credentials. Instead, they’ll select the CogAT icon from the Clever SSO portal.

Student ID + Organization ID + Proctor Code. If your district is not using Clever SSO, each student can log in by entering their student ID, your district’s organization ID, and your personal proctor code. Student IDs are unique to all students in your district but are not a globally unique identifier like the “username” field for most web sites. To make IDs globally unique, the organization ID is also required. Finally, the proctor code is entered to pair students with the specific educator that will be proctoring the tests.

Student Assignment Page

The student assignment page displays the subtests assigned to each student through the test assignment process. When students log in, they will see a card for each assigned subtest. There will be 9 subtest cards if CogAT Complete has been assigned, and 3 subtest cards if the CogAT Screening Form has been assigned. Subtests appear in the order in which they are designed to be administered. When students click the Take Test button that appears on each card, an approval request is sent to the proctor. Once approved, students are placed into the test. Each subtest requires approval from the proctor. As students complete each subtest, they are placed back on their assignment page. Subtest cards move from the Not Started section to the In Progress section and finally to the completed section of each students’ assignment page as they complete each subtest in their assignment.

Pause

Temporarily pauses all students and timers for timed levels of CogAT. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Use this option for temporary stops in testing, like helping one student out of the group that may be having trouble logging in.

Resume

Resumes paused tests. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room.

Save and Exit

Stops testing for students, saves their answers as the point where they are, and exits them from the test and navigates them back to their assignment page. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Typically used when allotted time runs out in a period/scheduled testing block. When students resume their tests later, they will pick back up on the exact test question where they left off.

Cancel and Discard

Stops testing for students and discards any answers they have selected for that specific subtest. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Be cautious when using this option because students will need to start that subtest over. This option is typically only used when students are experiencing significant technical problems and the proctor knows intuitively that students are not able to put forward their best effort on the test.

Extend Time

For timed levels of CogAT, allows the student to continue testing once time has run out. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. This is a typical accommodation for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 plans and should be used in a manner consistent with each students’ plan. It should not be used for general education students just because they ran out of testing time. Completed tests within the time allotted is an important variable in the validity and reliability of CogAT.

Student Score Availability in Reporting

If you are testing with CogAT Complete, student scores become available in reporting when a student has completed all three subtests in a battery (Verbal, Quantitative, Nonverbal). If you are testing with the CogAT Screening Form, scores become available when a student has completed all three subtests in the test.
