Proctoring test assignments is the process of pairing students and educators together in a digital proctoring room so that educators can monitor students’ progress in real time as they move through the subtests needed to finish CogAT testing. Prior to proctoring tests for the first time, review the information in this topic to familiarize yourself with the basics of the test proctoring process.

Digital Proctoring Room

Each adult rostered into Elevate receives their own unique module in the application for monitoring testing progress in real time. This module has an icon in the Main Menu and is split into three different pages.

Not Started—Includes students that have selected a subtest to complete from their assignment page and are waiting for approval to be let in to take their test.

In Progress—Includes students that have been approved and are actively testing.

Completed—Includes completed subtests by students throughout the assignment.

Proctor Code

The globally unique 7-digit code assigned to each educator rostered into Elevate. Much like a conference call code or a Zoom® link, the proctor code links students to a specific educator account for the test proctoring process. Students enter the code upon logging into the platform and are then paired with the proctor in their digital proctoring room.

Approve

The process of allowing students to take a specific subtest they have selected from their assignment page. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Each student must be approved to take each subtest in the CogAT.

Deny

The process of disallowing students to take a specific subtest they have selected from their assignment page. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Common reasons for denying students include attempting to take a test before they are scheduled to do so, accidentally logging in with an incorrect ID/as another student or selecting the wrong subtest to take at a point in time. You can record the reason for denial as you choose this option.

Pause

Temporarily pauses all students and timers for timed levels of CogAT. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Use this option for temporary stops in testing, like helping one student out of the group that may be having trouble logging in.
Resume: Resumes paused tests. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room.

Save and Exit

Stops testing for students, saves their answers as the point where they are, and exits them from the test and navigates them back to their assignment page. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Typically used when allotted time runs out in a period/scheduled testing block. When students resume their tests later, they will pick back up on the exact test question where they left off.

Cancel and Discard

Stops testing for students and discards any answers they have selected for that specific subtest. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. Be cautious when using this option because students will need to start that subtest over. This option is typically only used when students are experiencing significant technical problems and the proctor knows intuitively that students are not able to put forward their best effort on the test.

Extend Time

For timed levels of CogAT, allows the student to continue testing once time has run out. Can be done for one or all students in the proctoring room. This is a typical accommodation for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 plans and should be used in a manner consistent with each students’ plan. It should not be used for general education students just because they ran out of testing time. Completed tests within the time allotted is an important variable in the validity and reliability of CogAT.

Signal Strength

Displays the signal strength of students’ internet connections. If you notice intermittent student connectivity issues or generally weak internet connectivity, pause testing and contact your district’s IT department for troubleshooting support. Students with weak or intermittent connectivity may experience problems loading test questions, playing audio, and may lose connection to the test all together.

See Check Students Signal Strength for more information.
